Christmas at Pemberton's was SO fun. You get a mission, you have to find clues, use your logic, cross off suspects, put it all together until you have the mystery solved. It is for kids ages 8-12, and my kid (11) had fun, but I'm an adult and I loved it too! Fun way to get off your device and work together and also use inferencing skills. Case 1 starts out simple and the final case, well, wow. You'll have to see for yourself but just know they get more complicated (in a good way). At the end, there is an answer sheet so you can keep track and what I really like is the life lesson of 'true detectives never give up...learning from mistakes makes you even better'.
This book was great and reminded me of the board game Clue. The most amazing thing about this book was that it wasn't just mysteries but that it makes kids actually think and deduce in order to figure out the mysteries. Even in schools nowadays kids aren't expected to perform higher order thinking or critical thinking skills so this book does it in a fun way!! There are pages to process things for elimination etc to figure out who the culprits are. I was Extremely impressed by that especially. The department store setting was especially cute as well. I'd recommend this to all parents of kids to have them work to problem solve and make deductions and inferences!
This mystery detective book is great for kids or anyone who likes solving mysteries. What makes it even more special is that it is a Christmas edition! This book actually reminds me of the classic board game Clue. It includes a 'How to Play' page and solution pages, which makes it easy to follow along. I like that the mysteries start off easy and get more challenging as you progress throughout the book. This is the perfect book to strengthen your mystery-solving skills and keep you entertained for hours and hours. When you are finished with this book, you will definitely feel like a real detective, and it even includes a detective certificate as well.
This has been one of my favorite puzzle books I've ever completed!! The Christmas theme is a fun change from what I'm used to plus the main 'characters' that are solving the crimes are children. I'm pretty sure this is why it was a little easier to solve, but as a school teacher this was a fun stress reliever for a weekend read. My favorite part was that for each case, the author used 5 tags for every suspect. You used the clues given for each case to eliminate the suspect via their tags. This was a change for me from numbers/dates/names of puzzles that I've been completing. I will definitely be looking for more from this author!!
So if your kid likes these kind of puzzles where you use process of elimination to find out 'who done it' this book is perfect. Very 'pg' mysteries. Each suspect has symbols and locations by their name like a bell or christmas tree and they were in the ice rink and by reading the clues you can eliminate a suspect like the suspect did not have a bell in their shopping bag, so everyone who bought a bell is eliminated. Each suspect has about 8 symbols by their name. Every mystery has more suspects than the last.
