At first glance, this book of logic puzzles might seem too hard for the age range it wants to appeal to. However, after reading the instructions and the key to the symbols, the mystery revealed itself. Now, the number of suspects on puzzles that are further in... those are intimidating, but if the puzzles are worked in the order presented in the book, it builds stamina and confidence. The puzzles are similar to the logic grids, but without the grids. At first, this was odd because of the difference to common puzzles, but it's really easy to get used to.
My daughter and I did this together. It was a lot of fun! We both like puzzles and trying to solve them and this was something good to do together. For each case, the number of suspects increase, which increased the difficulty of narrowing down the person that committed the crime. But, as the suspects increase so do the clues. My ten-year-old really enjoyed this book. I recommend it to anyone who has kids who are on devices too much! A fun, entertaining activity that doesn't include anything on a screen.
What a fun little book. This is great for teams of students to solve together. The clues are straightforward and the solutions follow logic. I have tried other books where the are some huge inferences that have to be made in order to solve the puzzle. As a teacher, I would probably have students solve a few puzzles in rapid fire in teams. At any rate, all of the puzzles are fun and promote critical thinking and the process of elimination.
So fun! I loved that each case got a little bit more challenging. This would be a great book to do with kids in a logic class or at home. While I could see how having so many suspects in each case could get overwhelming, each case gives plenty of clues that helps narrow down the suspect list fairly easily to manage a more condensed list to work from. I love solving a fun mystery and these books are great!
