I really liked this mystery elimination activity book! There is a lot of books that give you a ton of suspects and one case with 12 clues, but this activity book eases you into it by warming up with smaller cases (12 suspects and 3 clues) and progressively adding more each case until it ends up on the nineteenth case with 500 suspects and 10 clues. I really like how you get the hang of it before given the longer cases. I also really liked that it used pictures as icons representing the different clues about the suspects instead of a bunch of categories with different numbers that get all confusing. All the solutions are at the end, no having to go elsewhere to find the answers. Overall, a lot of fun and age appropriate, would definitely recommend to all!
I will support any author that gets kids to think logically. I've grown up on logic puzzles and still love them. The layout is quite interesting with all the different icons and that will help link the icons to the appropriate 'traits' of the people in the mystery. However, I didn't give it 5 stars because towards the end of the book, there are SO many things to get through and the pages are just crammed full of icons, almost to the point of clutter. Maybe scanning it and then enlarging it into a PDF would make it more accessible. I would also prefer to have each 'case' or question have its own page in the answer key. Overall, an interesting, if not simpler, twist on a logic puzzle.
The Blackwood Manor detective game book is cute and fun. I had my 4th grader and 6th grader start it and it has been nice observing them and their thinking and problem-solving skills. It is not super challenging where it seems impossible but challenging enough where they have to think. Great to have for down time, car rides, or no screen time. It gives a Guest Icon and beside each guest name for each Case there are 5 icons and it will give a certain amount of clues and so you mark off the guest as you go through the clues and then there is only one left.
Cracking the case of Blackwood Manor with over 500 suspects, dozens of rooms and very thorough symbols to help you identify and crack the clues was a really fun book. I enjoy murder mysteries and logic puzzles to begin with and this was a neat way with a very thorough explanation and instructions for finding out who the thief is. The symbols were explained very clearly, and that was new to me for a way of giving clues and solving the whodunit books. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to try some of the other volumes!
I love puzzles!!! Omg this was done really really well! The explanation was top notch. I love the images and how it does gradually get harder. Even having more and more suspects added is funny. Also, super grateful for the answer pages in the back because of course we wanna make sure we are correct in our answers. This is too much fun (even me being an adult) it is perfect for the ages specified. But fun for all!
